If you want the power of an AI coding agent in the terminal but don't want to be tied to a single provider, Opencode is worth a look. It runs in the terminal, has IDE extensions, and a desktop beta — all open source, with 120k+ GitHub stars and a large contributor base behind it.

The main draw is model flexibility. You can connect it to any of 75+ LLM providers through Models.dev, including local models if you want to keep everything on your machine. It also supports GitHub Copilot and ChatGPT Plus/Pro authentication, so if you already pay for those, you can route through them. No code or context is stored, so the privacy story is clean.

In terms of features, you get LSP integration for language support, multiple parallel sessions, and shareable session links for collaboration. It covers the same surface area as most AI coding agents without locking you into one model or one company's pricing.
